Frequently Asked Multi-Day Tour Questions:

  • "Why choose McCarthy's Party?"
    • We have local guides, guaranteed departures, smaller group sizes, and local knowledge of "off the beaten track" places that most are not aware of.

  • "How big are your group sizes?
    • Group size normally ranges from 35-38 passengers on a full size (56 passenger) motor coach.  This allows for a more comfortable tour for our guests, ability to stop at smaller restaurants and towns, and maximizes interaction with your guide and the people we meet along the way.

  • "When is the best time to come?
    • All things have their season, and while we cannot make any guarantees, depending on what you are looking for there are different advantages to different departures:
      • May and June departures have the best chance of seeing icebergs
      • Late June through July departures offer the best chance of seeing whales
      • August departures tend to have our warmest weather
      • By September, many of our other summer visitors have gone home, so you're more likely to feel like you have the island to yourself

  • “How much is required as a deposit and when is final payment due?"
    • Deposit is $400.00 per person upon booking. Final payment is due 8 weeks prior to your tour departure.

  • "What is your cancellation policy?"
    • All cancellations must be received in writing. Deposit is non-refundable. Final payment is 100% non-refundable within 8 weeks of your tour departure date. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance privately or checking with your credit card company to see if they provide it.

  • “What forms of payment do you accept?"
    • We accept Visa, MasterCard, Cheque and Email Money Transfer (EMT).

  • “Where do we fly into/out of and what are the best arrival & departure times?"
    • Most of our multi-day tours (the 8- and 12- Day Tours) begin on the West Coast of Newfoundland. You would fly into Deer Lake Airport (YDF) which has flights from Air Canada, Westjet, Porter, Flair, as well as Provincial Airlines (PAL). We recommend arriving in the early afternoon on Day 1 of the tour.  However, if you cannot get in in the afternoon, someone will greet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel any time on Day 1 of the tour after 9am.
    • On the last day of the tour, you would fly out from St. John’s International Airport (YYT). Anytime that day is fine but we recommend mid to late afternoon. If you would like to arrive a day early or stay later, we can arrange your extra nights for you as well.
    • The 10- and 5- Day Tours both begin and end in St. John's, so the airport for both ends of those is St. John's International Airport (YYT).

  • "I have some mobility issues, can I still take your tour?"
    • We've had clients with many forms of mobility issues. The motor coach can generally get within 50-100 metres of each venue but some do have stairs.  As long as you can get on and off the motor coach unassisted or have a travelling companion who can assist you, you shouldn’t have any problem. For those that enjoy walking however, there is ample time to go exploring in the evenings and in your free time if desired. McCarthy's Party does reserve the right to refuse any passenger whose condition, in our opinion, may affect the health, safety or tour experience of the other travellers.

  • “ How much time is spent on the motor coach/driving?"
    • While the amount of driving each day varies, we try to keep driving distances down to a minimum so that we can spend the maximum time revelling in the environment. The longest travel time without a break would be between an hour and an hour and a half.

  • "What clothes should we bring?"
    • Spring, Summer & Fall are the most comfortable times to travel. We suggest dressing in layers so that you can add or remove them  as the temperatures dictate. Most travellers dress casually. You should bring a sweater, an all weather coat or jacket & comfortable walking shoes.

  • “Is there a limit to the amount of luggage I can bring?"
    • We provide baggage handling of 1 suitcase per person. Most passengers bring one suitcase and a carry on. Exceptions can be made in special circumstances.

  • "Are there laundry facilities along the way?"
    • Several of the hotels that we use do have coin laundry or laundry services available.

  • "Can I book an extra night or two?"
    • Extra nights are available before and after the tour for all Multi-Day tours except for pre-nights on the 8 day tour.

  • "How do meals work on your tours?"
    • Most meals are included; however, if the meal is not included, there will be ample options available to you, and your guide will be able to direct you to the best restaurant for you.

  • "Are there any travel restrictions in Newfoundland and Labrador?"
    • Currently there are no regulations restricting travel in the province, and we are following that public health guidance
